Portable Electronic
Medical Records Service
Cardiac Care Associates now offers portable electronic medical
records. For a lifetime fee of $100, patients will be given
a portable flash drive with their medical records saved to
memory. This information can be updated after every visit
in order to be as accurate and up-to-date as possible.
This will give patients the ability to have their Cardiac
Care medical records with them at all times and easily share
them with other medical providers. While this is useful for
any patient, it may prove especially useful for patients with
serious, long-term, or complex conditions, those with many
medications, and those who travel.
Flash drives are small, portable digital
storage devices that can be connected to almost any computer.
We will save your medical records on this drive in ‘PDF’ format,
a universal file format that almost every computer can already
read. Should you have a computer that can’t read the
file, you can easily obtain a free download of Adobe Reader
from www.Adobe.com.
With the initial fee, patients will receive all updates for
free. The flash drive also comes with a handy chain. If the
flash drive is damaged or lost, there is a modest replacement
fee.
Patients should be advised that this service in not likely
to be covered by medical insurance. Also, while medical records
are protected by HIPAA privacy rules and security protocols
in medical offices, the security protocols will not protect
the records on your flash drive, so it is important to be
careful to safeguard the data. The files are not password-protected,
in order to provide easy emergency access to them. The records
are yours to view and use as you wish.
